Our Stories

Please join us in congratulating our Curriculum Coordinator on her recent accomplishment. The Southern Early Childhood Association (SECA) selected Peake Childhood Center’s Sherry Custis as one of three of their 2023 Helen Harley scholarship recipients.

Each year, SECU provides the scholarship to a first-time guest in honor of Helen B. Harley, the first business manager and treasurer for the organization when they were known as the Southern Association of Children Under Six. SECU is committed to improving the quality of care and education for young children through advocacy and professional development for teachers and leaders, specializing in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

With this scholarship, Ms. Custis attended SECA’s 74th Annual Conference in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This year’s theme was Resilience, Reflections, and Pathways for the Future. She took advantage of the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from other early childhood educational professionals in a variety of sessions.  More specifically, she was able to acquire new knowledge about Peake’s current social emotional curriculum.
