Our Stories

At Peake Childhood Center, we believe that children learn best when they are actively engaged in hands-on exploration, and our recent classroom “cooking” activity is a great example. As part of the STREAMin3 curriculum, each class worked together to make sticky granola, transforming a fun snack-making project into an engaging lesson.

With guidance from their teachers, the children measured, poured, mixed, and pressed the ingredients to create granola bars. Along the way, they practiced important early math and science skills like counting and comparing quantities, learning measurement terms such as cup and teaspoon, and observing how sticky ingredients blend together to form something new.

Beyond the delicious results, the activity supported social emotional development by encouraging teamwork, impulse control, and vocabulary development. Children practiced using words like mix, sticky, and size while taking turns and working together.

Activities like this reflect Peake’s commitment to nurturing the whole child. Through our holistic curriculum, children build the early skills and confidence that set the stage for kindergarten readiness and lifelong learning. Whether they’re cooking, building, or experimenting, our teachers use hands-on activities to spark curiosity, encourage critical thinking, and make learning truly memorable.
