Our Stories

February is often associated with hearts and Valentine’s Day. This month, love has been especially visible at Peake through the actions of our donors, partners, and volunteers who continue to invest in our mission in meaningful ways.

During a large employee orientation, TowneBank staff members assembled supply boxes filled with STREAMin3 curriculum materials for both our Hampton and Newport News campuses. They also prepared bags of classroom supplies for teachers, personally delivering the materials and touring each campus. Now when a curriculum activity calls for something special like flashlights or ice cube trays, our teachers have everything handy.

The spirit of generosity continued with a significant donation from Donna and James R. Thornton that enabled the purchase of brand-new tables, chairs, art easels and more for our Hampton campus. When the large shipment arrived, volunteers from Ferguson diligently assembled each item, placing the new equipment in classrooms and helping remove the old pieces from the building. Today, our children are gathering around new tables for small-group learning and creating masterpieces at sturdy easels, all thanks to these incredible acts of kindness.

Throughout February, we have also welcomed dedicated volunteers who read stories to our children and assisted with messy art projects. We were even honored by surprise visits from Congressman Scott, former Mayor Price, and former Mayor Tuck. These moments may look different—a monetary donation, a box of supplies, a volunteer’s time—but together they show a powerful image of a community that invests in our children.

To every donor, partner, and volunteer who has shown Peake love this February and throughout the year, we extend our deepest gratitude. Your generosity strengthens our mission, supports our teachers, and most importantly, helps our children learn and grow.
