Our Stories

At Peake Childhood Center, learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door. This summer, our children embarked on exciting adventures throughout Hampton Roads, exploring museums, parks, and local attractions that brought classroom lessons to life.

At the Virginia Living Museum, children observed native animals and explored the natural world. At the Children’s Museum of Virginia, they made giant bubbles, went magnet fishing, and ran a child-sized grocery store. Literacy lessons, like the beginning-letter activity pictured here, were thoughtfully woven throughout the exhibits. At the Mariners’ Museum, our young learners explored the local waterways through interactive exhibits while investigating science concepts like buoyancy and the properties of water.

Time spent at local parks supported more than physical activity. Through cooperative games and free play, children learned to solve problems together and develop the social skills that are essential for success in school. We also welcomed special visitors to our campuses, including a traveling petting zoo during our animal-themed curriculum week. Every field trip provided meaningful learning experiences that reinforced the skills children develop each day in the classroom.

Field trips also help children build connections to the world around them. By visiting local museums, parks, and community spaces, children discover that learning happens everywhere. These experiences help children see themselves as active participants in the communities where they live.

We are especially grateful to the donors whose generosity made these adventures possible. Their investment provided much more than transportation and admission. It opened doors to new experiences, inspired curiosity, and created joyful memories that will stay with our children long after summer has ended.
