Our Stories

On September 27th, 2022, Peake families gathered for Back-to-School Night to reflect on what’s happened thus far and look ahead at what’s to come. Parents learned ways to connect with the Center and engage in their child’s educational journey. Our teachers shared lessons from Peake’s holistic curriculum and connections to the learning centers in their classrooms. Most recently, students learned how to establish and retain friendships as part of the Streamin3 curriculum, funded by the Virginia Department of Education.

Community support has been a lasting highlight of our back-to-school season. Staff and students kicked off the year prepared with well-needed tools purchased through Huntington Ingalls Industries’ community grant. Each class has been equipped with an iPad, funded by Cox Charities, allowing teachers to easily and efficiently track attendance and meals and connect with parents virtually. Our supply shelves remained stocked thanks to our supporters who donated everyday supplies from our Wishlist. Additionally, Peake students of all ages have especially enjoyed our new community-funded Gross Motor Skills room.

October will bring many exciting additions to our programming. Students will begin to explore quality music-focused opportunities through the Kindermusik curriculum, funded by our community of donors. Teachers will introduce a revamped Al’s Pals curriculum featuring new music and layouts to support student social-emotional development. Orange leaves and pumpkins have already begun popping up in art projects and science experiments. Follow us on social media to see these things unfold.
