With the crisp air and changing colors, Fall is the perfect season to embrace the joy of outdoor learning. At Peake Childhood Center, our children spend time outdoors every day, exploring in ways that are just as meaningful as the lessons they experience inside.
On our playgrounds, children build both strong bodies and minds. Riding tricycles strengthens balance and coordination while also teaching the importance of taking turns and sharing space. In the mud kitchen, young chefs mix, scoop, and pour, sparking creativity while developing early math and science skills. Jumbo building blocks inspire collaboration and problem-solving as children work together to design towers, bridges, and imaginative structures.
Even the occasional rainy day can’t stop outdoor learning at Peake. Donned in our rain suits and boots, children splash in puddles and catch raindrops on their tongues. These experiences not only build sensory awareness and resilience but also teach children that learning can happen anywhere, rain or shine. Children observe the water cycle, learn about weather changes, and see how rain affects plants and animals, fostering a foundational understanding of science.
Outdoor experiences may look like simple play, but these experiences help form the foundation of lifelong skills. Children develop fine and gross motor skills, while running and climbing. They exercise their social-emotional skills while practicing communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. Most importantly, they do it all in an environment that fosters joy, wonder, and discovery.
At Peake, we believe outdoor learning is essential to a child’s growth. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to see pictures of our children learning through play every day.
