Over the past two years we have been working to select a name that better reflects our current and future identity. Spearheaded by our Board’s Branding Committee, our re-branding effort was a multi-year process that included a community survey and a focus group so we could hear from our stakeholders.
After many meetings and much research, our Board of Directors is excited to announce that we will now be known as Peake Childhood Center (PCC). This name embraces the history of the Center and its role in the community. Mary Peake was instrumental in the education of African American students in Hampton Roads, and her legacy aligns with the mission of the newly named Peake Childhood Center. Our new logo – which has a sprout growing out of a book – helps illustrate the story of Mary Peake teaching adults and children to read under a historic tree located on what is now the campus of Hampton University.
The sprout also exemplifies our new tagline: Growing Promising Futures. This tagline supports our mission and work to ensure our children have dynamic learning experiences and are school ready with bright futures ahead of them. As we grow promising futures for our students, we also do so for our community as our children will be our community’s future workforce. Our current workforce also has a promising future because our children’s parents, who represent the current workforce, are provided reliable childcare while they work on the front lines and keep our economy strong.
While the name, logo, and tagline have changed, PCC has not changed its location, staff, or the programs you have come to know and love. Gradually over the coming weeks you will see changes to our website, email addresses, and social media. We are not making any changes now that would impact how you provide us financial support. We will certainly notify you when those changes are made. It is important to know that, as is the case with many companies that change their business names, our legal name (Downtown Hampton Child Care Council) will not change.
