The groundbreaking for the facility in Newport News that will become Peake’s second campus was held on October 25, 2022. Alongside several distinguished speakers, students from Peake stole the show with song and dance. The crowd was all smiles as the students participated in the groundbreaking photo, donning construction hats and wielding small golden shovels.
Peake Childhood Center, the City of Newport News, and Virginia Peninsula Community College have begun a new project to enhance early education outcomes and transform the lives of young people and their families in Newport News and beyond. Newport News is leading the effort by creating a facility in which the partnership can thrive. Peake will serve approximately 200 children ages six weeks to five years of age in the facility. Virginia Peninsula Community College’s (VPCC) Center for Excellence in Early Childhood Learning and Development will be based at the facility and will serve as an avenue for teacher preparation and credentialing. VPCC students will work with children at the center and go on to fill Virginia’s overwhelming shortage of early childhood educators.
Stay tuned for updates as we work together to double Peake’s capacity to serve children and families on the Peninsula.
