The Virginial Association of the Education of Young Children (VAAEYC) recognizes early childhood educators and advocates for their tireless work towards the betterment of all children in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The annual awards are to recognize individuals who have made positive impacts in their programs, communities, or all of Virginia. The VAAEYC Educator of the Year award honors outstanding service and accomplishments in the delivery of services to children. It is given to an individual who has contributed significantly to the direct care and education of young children.
Tia Patillo, who taught at Peake, received this award at the VAAEYC conference in April. She was recognized for her work at Peake as a teacher in an infant room and a two-year-old room. She started at Peake as a teacher assistant in the Busy Bees toddler room. Her commitment to the children in her classrooms and the teaching strategies she used with the children helped to lay the foundation they need to ensure their future success. Mrs. Patillo and our other teachers celebrated this recognition at the center as well as at the conference. Our teachers continue to work together to grow promising futures for all our children.
